Key Insights
Rahmat Shah became the first Test centurion of 2025. He scored 139 runs against Zimbabwe in the third innings of the Bulawayo Test on January 4.
On the same day, South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton brought up 259 against Pakistan in Cape Town. Rickelton’s 259 is now the joint-third highest individual score by an opener for South Africa in Tests. This is, by far, the highest Test score this year.
In late January, Australia’s Usman Khawaja smashed his personal best Test score. He aggregated 232 runs against Sri Lanka in the first innings at Galle. Khawaja also became the first Test double-centurion from Australia in Sri Lanka.
In the same Test, Josh Inglis brought up his maiden hundred off 90 balls, the second fastest by a batter on Test debut. That also made him the 21st Australian Test debutant to score a century.
In the second Galle Test in early February, Alex Carey logged the highest score by an Australian wicketkeeper in Sri Lanka. He amassed 156 in the second innings to become the second Aussie keeper with a Test ton in Sri Lanka.
The start of England’s home summer saw their top three batters – Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope – score a century each in the same innings against Zimbabwe in Nottingham. This was overall the 17th instance in Test cricket and the second for the English trio.
Later in the same match, Brian Bennett became the second Zimbabwean to smash a Test hundred in England. He scored 139 runs in 143 balls in the second innings.
Najmul Hossain Shanto became the first centurion of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. He scored 148 against Sri Lanka in the first innings at Galle. Shanto brought up another ton in the third innings to become the first Bangladesh captain to score twin hundreds in the same Test.
Likewise, Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to smash two hundreds in the same Test. He hammered 134 and 118 against England at Headingley.
Here is the list of players who have scored twin centuries in Test cricket more than once.
