The English summer has arrived, and so have we. In England, Indian cricket has some unfinished business. Remember that the fifth Test match was rescheduled for July 1st, 2022, in 2021. India won two of the four matches, while England only managed to win the third one.
Both India and England have had a difficult year. Both teams have seen administration ups and downs. Both teams’ management has experienced some changes. However, both teams appear to be in good shape and will give their all in this series finale.
Covid apprehended Rohit Sharma. Rahul Dravid has stated that he is not ruled out yet. A final test will be performed on Thursday, which will decide Rohit’s availability.
England is way behind India in the World Test Championship, but they can ruin the chances for the Indian team.
Squads for one-off Test:
Indian team
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Hanuma Vihari, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KS Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah (Vice-Captain), Prasidh Krishna, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, and Mayank Agarwal
Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lead if Rohit misses out.
England Team
Ben Stokes (Captain), James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Billings, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes, Jack Leach, Alex Lees, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Ollie Pope, Joe Root.
The Venue – Edgbaston, Birmingham
The fifth Test was scheduled to take place in Manchester at Old Trafford. However, the location has now been shifted to Edgbaston, Birmingham. England has a strong history at Edgbaston. The hosts have won 28 of the 53 Tests played at this venue. India, on the other side, has played seven matches and has not won any of them. Therefore, it appears that England has the upper hand over India.
Edgbaston’s pitch is ideal for both batters and bowlers. This track provides a decent grip for bowlers. This pitch is neither green nor flat. Batters need to spend some time in the middle to score big.
Birmingham Weather Forecast
Weather is crucial in Test cricket, especially when the match is played in England. There is a greater than 50% chance of rain on day one. Showers are more likely on day two, which might cause significant disruption. However, we should expect to see some cricket on day three, as the fourth and fifth days of the match appear to be brighter, with very little possibility of delay due to rain.
Date & Time
The one-off Test will commence on July 1, 2022. And if the match lasts five days, we will have a series finish on July 5. The game will start at 3:30 PM IST.
What to Expect?
The way England has begun their campaign under the Mighty Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, they have made a statement to the world that they would seek to attack no matter what. Ben Stokes and company have whitewashed New Zealand and appear to be dangerous. The Indian team, on the other hand, is also looking comfortable. India made a statement against the hosts last year and will want to finish the series on a high note. The venue appears to favor England, but India is already 2-1 up in the series and will try to clinch it with a win or a draw.
