6 Bowlers who dismissed all 11 batsmen in a Test Match

There are only six occasions in Test Cricket, where a bowler dismissed all 11 players of the opposite team in the same Test Match.

Yes, it is a rare feat to achieve.

Picking up a 10 Wickets haul in a Test Match is always special. But, dismissing every player in the opposite eleven is something big.

Once, Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a rare feat in Test Cricket during Australia’s tour to India in 2013, by getting out every Australian batsmen who batted in that series.

Again, it is a rare sight nowadays to see a bowler dominating every batsman of the opposite team.

And that is why nobody has achieved this feat since Muttiah Muralitharan since 2000.

Bowlers who got out of all 11 Batsmen in a Test Match

  1. Jim Laker (ENG) vs AUS (in 1956)
  2. Srinivas Venkataraghavan (IND) vs NZ (in 1965)
  3. Geoff Dymock (AUS) vs IND (in 1979)
  4. Abdul Qadir (PAK) vs ENG (in 1987)
  5. Waqar Younis (PAK) vs  NZ (in 1990)
  6. Muttiah Muralitharan (SL) vs SA (in 2000)

Jim Laker

Jim Laker achieved this feat in a historical Test Match against Australia when he ended up picking all 10 Wickets in an Innings for the 1st time in Cricket.

His Bowling figure on that match 19/90 is still the best bowling figure by any bowler in Test Cricket.

Result: England won by an innings and 170 Runs.

Srinivas Venkataraghavan

The only Indian player to achieve this feat – Srinivas Vengataraghavan picked all 11 New Zealand Wickets in the 4th Test match of the NZ tour of India in 1965.

His bowling figure on that match was 12/152.

Result: India won by 7 Wickets.

Geoff Dymock

Geoff Dymock who had played only 21 Test matches for Australia, managed to get into this list by picking up all 11 Wickets against India at Kanpur in 1979.

The left-handed fast-medium bowler picked 12/166 in that particular match.

Result: Irrespective of the Dymock show, India won that match by 153 Runs.

Abdul Qadir

In the very 1st test match of England’s tour of Pakistan in 1987, Abdul Qadir managed to pick 9/56 in the 1st Innings and picked the other 2 batsmen in the 2nd innings to complete the feat of picking everyone in the opposition side.

England had always been the favourite opposition for Qadir and he has done the magic against them, few other times too.

Result: Pakistan won by an Innings and 87 Runs.

Waqar Younis

Another Pakistani bowler to achieve this feat was Waqar Younis against New Zealand in 1990. Pakistan won that series 3-0.

Waqar Younis was one of the Players of the Tournament in that series.

The feat was achieved in the 3rd and final test in Faisalabad, where Waqar ended up with a figure of 12/130.

Result: Pakistan won by 65 Runs.

Muttiah Muralitharan

There is no Test Bowling record in Cricket without the name of Muralitharan in it.

He tops the Most Wickets in Test Cricket with 800 Wickets.

His involvement in this list came in Galle in 2000, when Murali picked all 11 South African Wickets.

Murali ended with a match figure of 13/171 in that match.

He also tops the count of 5-Wickets hauls & 10-Wickets hauls in Test Cricket.

Result: Sri Lanka won by an innings & 15 Runs.

Wrapping it up!

When Anil Kumble became the 2nd player in the history of Test Cricket to pick 10 wickets in an innings, he failed to pick Waqar Younis in both the innings of that match and that kept him out of this list. Check the Scorecard!

The other important trivia about this record is Geoff Dymock’s record is the only time, this record has occurred in a losing occasion.

It is also a pity that no bowler, since 2000, has ever achieved this feat.

Have you got anybody in mind, who can get into this list?
