Team Dominance and Frequency of Successful Pursuits

Australia have made the most successful 200-plus run chases in T20Is, with seven instances to their name each.

Bulgaria have gunned down the most 200-plus targets among associate teams, with them being the only team with three or more instances.

South Africa were the first team to chase a 200-plus run target in T20Is. They overhauled a 206-run target against the West Indies in what was the first-ever T20 World Cup match back in 2007.

Australia are the only team to record consecutive 200-plus run chases in T20Is, having gunned down 215- and 206-run targets against the West Indies in back-to-back matches at the Warner Park in July 2025.

Pakistan (2021), Bulgaria (2022), and Australia (2025) are the three teams to chase down 200-plus targets in two matches in a calendar year in T20Is.

Australia and South Africa have successfully made two 200-plus chases each against India and the West Indies in T20Is.


World Records for Highest and Fastest Run Chases

South Africa have made the highest successful run chase in T20Is, having gunned down a 259-run target against the West Indies in the 2023 Centurion T20I.

The West Indies’ 258 for 5, in turn, became the highest total by a team in a losing cause in T20Is.

The Centurion T20I between the West Indies and South Africa recorded the highest run aggregate of 517 across two innings combined in a T20I match.

Serbia’s first-ever 200-run chase turned out to be the fastest by a team in T20Is. They chased down 200 runs against Slovenia in 14.1 overs in the 2025 Belgrade T20I.

Bulgaria are the other team to overhaul a 200-plus run chase within 15 overs, having made the 244-run chase against Gibraltar in 14.2 overs in a 2025 tri-series.

The fastest 200-plus run chase by a full-member team belongs to Pakistan, who needed 16 overs to crush down a 205-run target against New Zealand in the 2025 Auckland T20I.

England, the West Indies, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia, and Ireland have failed to chase 200-plus targets in 10 or more T20I matches.

India are the only team to defend 200-plus run totals in 30 or more matches in T20I cricket.
