Chinnaswamy Safety & Capacity: After the safety audits following last year’s title celebrations, the stadium has been cleared for a full capacity of 33,000. However, strict new protocols are in place, including six new gates and a massive holding area at the old NCA premises to manage the “electric” Bengaluru crowd.
The Raipur Connection: Out of its 7 home games, the Bengaluru-based side will play five home games in Bengaluru and two in Raipur (Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium). The Raipur move fulfills prior commitments and offers a different pitch dynamic—typically slower than the flat, high-scoring deck at Chinnaswamy.
2. Squad Evolution: Defending the Title
Unlike previous years where RCB often overhauled their roster, the 2026 strategy is built on continuity.
Leadership: Rajat Patidar continues as captain after leading the team to the 2025 trophy.
Key Auction Additions: To bolster their title defense, they spent ₹16.4 crore in the mini-auction, notably landing Venkatesh Iyer (₹7 crore) to add left-handed versatility to the middle order and Jacob Duffy (₹2 crore) for pace depth.
The Bowling Pivot: With Josh Hazlewood facing injury concerns (recovering from a pre-Ashes setback), veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to lead the attack alongside the Slingy Nuwan Thushara and Yash Dayal.
3. Strategic Match Insights (Phase 1)
The Opener (March 28 vs SRH): As champions, RCB hosts the curtain-raiser. It’s a repeat of the 2016 final rivalry, but this time they start at the top.
The “Southern Derby” (April 5 vs CSK): This is the biggest gate-revenue match of the phase. With the new safety measures at Chinnaswamy, expect a “full-scale mock drill” of the crowd management systems during this high-tension fixture.
Travel Schedule: Their Phase 1 involves a fair amount of travel—from the humidity of Bengaluru to the heat of Guwahati (vs RR) and the bounce of Wankhede (vs MI) within just one week (April 5–12).
