Top 5 Players from West Bengal in IPL

The journey of the Indian Premier League has started in the year 2008, and in that journey, all have witnessed many domestic cricketers who make their fate to the international sphere. From Rohit Sharma to Jasprit Bumrah, the names are so many to count. But when it comes to the state of West Bengal, the name which strikes first in my mind is “Sourav Ganguly.” Of course, there are a plethora of athletic cricketers who come out from West Bengal and successfully establish themselves at the international level. But, Ganguly has carved the Indian cricket team, which vintage MS Dhoni later cashed in in the 2011 World Cup. Find out Ganguly’s captaincy record here.

The Indian Premier League is the most-watched cricket league in the world. Other stalwart names from the state of West Bengal are the current leading pacer of India, Mohammad Shami, the wiki batter Wriddhiman Saha and many more. In IPL, all the states and territories have become the symbol of national unity. All cricketers play for their franchise by forgetting all their previous teams because the aim stays very clear to crack the selection process of the Indian Cricket Team.

So, here are the top 5 players from West Bengal who appeared in the IPL.

#1 Sourav Ganguly (KKR)

Sourav Ganguly was the former skipper of his home franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. He was the one who led Kolkata in their initial 3 seasons. He has played 59 matches in IPL until 2012 and scored 1349 runs in it. In 2011, Gautam Gambhir took over the captaincy from him and led the other journey for 7 long years. He is the most flamboyant and popular player in the few initial editions of the Indian Premier League. Later he was shifted to Pune Warriors India and played his last season of IPL 2012 for the franchise.

#2 Mohammad Shami (GT)

The current leading pacer of the Indian Cricket Team was the ace of the West Bengal team in the domestic circuit at some point in time. Shami is currently signed in to the new franchise of Gujarat Titans, where he is playing under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. Previously, he played for Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Daredevils. Shami got a few opportunities from his home franchise KKR in his debut season, but later Delhi brought him in the next season, where he showed his real skills in bowling. You should read the factors that make Shami a lethal bowler to understand why he is a wicket-taking machine.

#3 Wriddhiman Saha (GT)

The wicketkeeper-batsman is the third most successful west Bengal cricketer in the Indian Premier League. He has played 133 matches in his IPL career, which is the most on the list. He has debuted in the inaugural edition of IPL 2008 from the home side of KKR. His first two seasons were not so impressive, but later, he took a flyer and consistently played good knocks for his teams. Afterward, he was signed by Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and now finally, he is with Gujarat Titans.

#4 Manoj Tiwary (KKR)

Manoj Tiwary stands at the No. 4 position as per his experience in the IPL. He has debuted from the side of Delhi, but after a couple of seasons, he has shifted to the home team of Kolkata Knight Riders. He is among the few players who have scored tons at each level of Cricket but couldn’t sustain the performance for a long while. Manoj has appeared in 98 IPL games in which he scored 1695 runs with a decent average of 28.7. He has taken retirement from IPL in the year 2018.

#5 Ashok Dinda (KKR)

Kolkata Knight Riders, the home team, has picked up Ashok Dinda in the auction before the inaugural season of IPL 2008. But he couldn’t stick for a long time there; after he debuted for India in 2009, his flamboyance increased in the cricketing arena. Later, he was picked up by Delhi Daredevils, and he continued his further journey with them. His unorthodox bowling action is the rememberable thing for his loveable cricket fans.
