The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been the most consistent teams in the IPL, with a repertoire for taking on any opponent.

Over the years, MS Dhoni led the team with much fervour against other fierce opponents, conquering them season after season. And now Ruturaj Gaikwad is taking forward the legacy.

CSK is one of the toughest competitors to beat in the league, which is reflected in their opponent-wise record. And that’s one of the reasons why they are one of the most successful franchises in the IPL.

On that note, let’s look at CSK’s record against all opponents in the IPL.

Key Insights

Chennai Super Kings have faced 12 teams in the IPL and have played 20 or more matches against seven of them.

Out of those seven teams, CSK have a win percentage of 50+ against six opponents. Except against the Mumbai Indians (MI), the Super Kings have the upper hand over all other teams.

CSK’s record against their southern counterparts is quite astonishing, with a clear dominance in the battle of these southern teams. They have established a clear dominance over two Hyderabad-based teams — Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad — and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Thus far, Chennai have been involved in a tied IPL match only once, which they lost in the Super Over against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2010.

Except for Kochi, Lucknow, and Pune, CSK have faced the other nine teams in the IPL Playoffs at least once. The five-time champions have encountered MI in knockouts nine times — the only team they have played against in five or more matches in the playoffs.
