The super Innings by Virat included 7 Sixes and 8 fours, and is 21 balls more than the fastest ever AB de Villiers’ 31-ball Century.

It was in October 2013, when Virat Kohli smashed the record fastest century by an Indian batsman in the ODI history.

Virat crossed the hundred mark in his 52nd ball of the innings while chasing Australia’s mighty 360 successfully.

Rohit Sharma, the other centurion in India’s Innings, was declared the Man of the match for his score of 141*.

2. Virender Sehwag in 60 Balls

Before Virat Kohli’s “went-like-a-rocket” innings in Jaipur in 2013, It was Virender Sehwag, who was enjoying the tag of ‘Fastest Indian to score Hundred in ODI’

Though, this innings of Sehwag is still

  • the fastest ODI century by an Indian batsman in an away match!
  • the fastest ODI century by an Indian opener!

Also, with this innings, Viru had beaten the previous record of Mohammad Azharuddin almost after 20 years.

Once again in the chase, Virat proved why he is the chase master of modern day cricket.

He has 21 centuries in ODI chases and that’s the most by any Cricketer.

Result: Thanks to the centuries from Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, India won the chase (351) by 6 wickets (with 3 balls remaining)

4. Mohammad Azharuddin in 62 Balls

  • Opponent: New Zealand
  • Balls Taken: 62

The record which stood for almost 20 years, was Azharuddin’s 62 ball century.

The innings came once again in one of India’s successful run chase, where the former captain stayed not out, completing the chase of New Zealand’s 278 with the fastest ODI century by an Indian batsman then.

Few days after Rohit Sharma’s blistering knock of Rohit Sharma against Afghanistan, KL Rahul put on a pacy show against Netherlands, which happened to be India’s record for the fastest century in a ODI WC match.

Putting in a formidable partnership with Shreyas Iyer, both the Indian batters scored centuries to bring a mammoth total of 410/4.

6. Rohit Sharma – 63 Balls

  • Venue: Delhi
  • Opponent: Afghanistan
  • Balls Taken: 63

Coming after a shocking start against Australia in the CWC 2023 Opener, Rohit Sharma set the tone much earlier in the chase against Afghanistan.

The Indian captain hit 5 sixes in the knock, where he crossed the three-digit milestone in just 63 balls.
