Key Insights
1: Sachin Tendulkar became the first player to score a century as a captain in the IPL. The Master Blaster led his home side, the Mumbai Indians, in 2011 while bringing up an unbeaten 100 against the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
39: When Adam Gilchrist scored 106 for the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2011, he was 39 years and 184 days old. That makes him the oldest batter to score a hundred in the IPL.
Virat Kohli has notched up the most hundreds as a skipper in the IPL, with five to his name. Four of them came in 2016 — the most tons in a single IPL season. (Check out Virat Kohli’s hundreds in the tournament here.)
KL Rahul is the other batter to have three or more centuries as a captain in the IPL. And he is the only player to score centuries for two franchises while leading them. Rahul hammered one ton for Punjab in 2020, while the other two came for Lucknow.
