1: India’s Chetan Sharma became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the ODI World Cup. He took 3 consecutive wickets against New Zealand in Nagpur in the 4th edition of the tournament.

2: Number of bowlers from India and Sri Lanka each who have picked up a hat-trick in the 50-over tournament. Apart from Sharma, Mohammed Shami picked up 3 consecutive wickets against Afghanistan in the 2019 edition. Talking about Sri Lanka, Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga claimed hat-tricks in the tournament.

2: Yorker King Lasith Malinga is the only bowler who has picked up 2 hat-tricks in ODI World Cup history. His first came in the 2007 edition, while the second one came in the 2011 edition.

4: Malinga’s first hat-trick is even more special as he not only picked up 3 wickets, but he picked up 4 wickets in a row, making it a double hat-trick. And he is the only bowler to grab 4 wickets in 4 consecutive deliveries in the ODI format. Moreover, he has achieved this feat in the T20I format as well.
