Key Insights

145: Nathan Astle and Andy Flower hold the joint record for smashing the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy. Both batters scored 145 each against the USA and India, respectively. Interestingly, Flower’s score is also the highest in a losing cause, as Zimbabwe couldn’t chase India’s 289-run target.

141: Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly logged the highest individual scores in the Champions Trophy knockout stage. Tendulkar netted 141 against Australia in the third quarter-final in 1998, while Ganguly scored 141 not out versus South Africa in the second semi-final in 2000.

136: Shane Watson recorded the highest score in a successful run chase in the Champions Trophy. His unbeaten 136 helped Australia breeze past England’s 257 in the first semi-final in 2009

7: Watson’s knock also included seven sixes, which is the joint-most by a batter in an innings in this event. He matched New Zealand’s Craig McMillan’s record, though the Kiwi batter scored an unbeaten 64 versus the USA.

21: On the other hand, Virender Sehwag hammered the most fours in an innings. The aggressive opener sent down 21 fours against England during his 126-run knock. Find out the overall ODI record for this stat.

121.27: Shikhar Dhawan’s strike rate of 121.27 is the highest by a centurion in the 50-over competition. He accumulated 114 runs off 94 balls against South Africa in 2013. Sehwag is the other batter to score a hundred at more than 120 strike rate. His 126 off 104 deliveries came at a strike rate of 121.15 against England in 2002.

77: Before smashing 126, Sehwag reached the 100-run mark in 77 balls, making it the fastest century in the Champions Trophy.

50: There are over 50 instances of batters smashing centuries in the white-ball tournament. Only Chris Gayle, Herschelle Gibbs, Dhawan, and Ganguly have scored the most, with three each to their names.
