IPL 2020: Five Key Players for CSK this IPL

The Yellow army (Chennai Super Kings) hasn’t had the best of times since the team landed in UAE.

First, the news of players and staff being affected by the Covid-19 and then, their premier batsman returning to India. If the information of Harbhajan non-involvement during the IPL 2020 is right, this would be another setback for the team from Chennai. Add to it, the no game time for most of the players in the squad baring DJ Bravo, Mitchell Santner. Sam Curran and to an extent Hazelwood.

In a different world apart from the above troubles, People who have followed Chennai Super Kings over the years also know that the yellow army is an engine that functions more smoothly the more it boils.

It is really difficult to choose five impact players in a team, especially for Chennai Super Kings, who hardly believe in individual brilliance. They are the team, who will have several players across the squad to stand up on rainy days to take the team towards shelter.

1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni

There cannot be Chennai Super Kings without MSD and vice-versa. MSD not only is the skipper of the team but also is the belief behind several players in the squad. If he believes it can be done, the team will line behind him to go for the fight. In these challenging times for CSK, the former Indian captain’s job is not only to keep the team motivated but also to man battles and finish games for CSK along with his wicket-keeping duties.

2. Ambati Rayudu

In the absence of Suresh Raina, Rayudu would have to take an added responsibility, not to forget he has a point to prove after being left out of the World cup squad last year. Rayudu is also essential due to his different roles on days he might open, and there might be situations where he might have to come in the middle order, and maybe do what Raina has been doing for CSK over the years.

3. Piyush Chawla

The latest import to the CSK family is a veteran in the Indian domestic circuit; his role would be very vital. With the departure of Raina, CSK might look to play one of their senior overseas batsmen, and this might not allow Tahir to play all the games, and it is here that Chawla would have to step up and shoulder the responsibility. During the pre-IPL camp back in March, Chawla was also seen working on his batting which would be an added advantage for the CSK team

4. Dwayne Bravo

People might not have seen Bravo in peak form for some time now. He appears to be working more on his bowling these days, but as we all know, there is no substitute for experience, and this is where Bravo can be dangerous. What people tend to forget is that Bravo might not have scored heavily. However, his cameos have often been handy and match-saving for the Whistle Podu army, and add to it, his death bowling skills especially on the low, slow wickets of UAE.

5. Deepak Chahar

The last one was the toughest, but I would go with Deepak Chahar. The reason behind choosing Chahar is that he would surely be the pace spearhead of the Chennai Super Kings. He has developed his game to also ball in the death. This might be a big statement, but Chahar has all the ingredients to become a bowling all-rounder. Not to forget he had lost his place from the Indian team due to injury, and he was in top bowling form before it. Chahar’s role would also be necessary because there might be a possibility that Bravo may not play all the games and, in that situation, Chahar would be needed to do the finishing job for CSK.

Deep within as a CSK fan I know come November, and the yellow team would surely be in the Play-off, but till then take care!

We know this is a subjective matter, and the opinions would differ. So we at CricIndeed would ask all of you to make a list of five players whom you think would play a key role and fill in the Comment Section.
