Key Insights – Key Performances from the No. 5 Spot in IPL

Ben Stokes has logged the highest score by a Number 5 batsman in the IPL. The England all-rounder scored his maiden IPL hundred for Rising Pune Supergiant in a 2017 game against Gujarat Lions.

Yusuf Pathan and David Miller are the other No. 5 batters to score IPL centuries. Interestingly, both batters reached their hundreds in fewer than 40 balls. In fact, Pathan (37) and Miller (38) are the third- and fourth-fastest centurions, respectively.

Miller has also scored the joint-quickest half-century at No. 5. He blasted an unbeaten 51 off 19 balls against Rajasthan Royals in 2014. Jason Roy took as many balls to bring up his fifty against Chennai Super Kings in 2023.

Miller has also scored the most innings of 75 or more runs at No. 5. He has four scores of 75 or above runs. AB de Villiers follows him with three scores.

Miller’s tally extends to 13 if we consider fifty-plus scores. MS Dhoni comes second with 11 half-centuries at No. 5.

Rishabh Pant has recorded the highest strike rate at the No. 5 position (min. 50 runs). He scored an unbeaten 78 off 27 at a strike rate of 288.88.
