While he played most of his matches against England, his prolonged dominance against English bowlers is a miracle. His 19 centuries against England are the most a player has scored against a single opponent.

He is followed by India’s little master, Sunil Gavaskar, with 13 centuries against the West Indies. Gavaskar’s feat is particularly impressive as it came during the years 1971-1983, a period when the West Indies were considered unbeatable. He even scored 700 runs in his debut Test series against the West Indies in their own backyard.
