Clyde Walcott has smashed the most centuries in a bilateral Test series. The former West Indies batter scored five hundreds against Australia in the 1955 series.
On top of his hundreds, Walcott had two fifties, aggregating to seven fifty-plus scores. This is the joint-most fifty-plus scores by a batter in a Test series. Eight more batters have notched up seven scores of fifty or more runs in a series.
Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar have scored the joint-most Test hundreds in a bilateral series as captains. Bradman was the first to bring up four tons against India in the 1947/48 series. Gavaskar levelled Bradman’s record in the 1978/79 series against the West Indies.
Bradman and Garry Sobers have scored three or more centuries in five Test series each, the joint-most among all batters.
Three of Bradman’s instances unfolded when he led Australia, the joint-most among captains in Test cricket. Steven Smith is the other skipper to hammer three or more tons in three bilateral series. Sobers and Virat Kohli are the other two captains to achieve the record in two bilateral series.
George Headley and Gavaskar have brought up the most centuries in a debut Test series. Both batters racked up four tons each, with Headley being the first to do so in the 1930 series against England, while Gavaskar did so on the 1971 West Indies tour.
South Africa’s Denis Lindsay has scored the most hundreds in a Test series among wicketkeepers. He raised three tons against Australia in the 1966 home series. Here are the leaders of centuries among wicketkeepers in Test cricket.
Bradman converted three of his four hundreds into double centuries in the 1930 Ashes, the most by a batter in a bilateral series. His best score of 334 also came in the same series.
Those double centuries helped Bradman bulk up 974 runs in five matches (seven innings), the most runs by a batter in a Test series.
