Key Insights

Jos Buttler holds the unwanted record for registering the most ducks in a single IPL season. The England batter scored five ducks in the 2023 season. Buttler broke Herschelle Gibbs’ 15-season-old record of four ducks.

The last three of five ducks scored by Buttler came in three consecutive innings, making him the sixth batter to register three consecutive ducks in an IPL season. Gautam Gambhir (2014), Shardul Thakur (2017), Aston Turner (2019), Rashid Khan (2021), and Tim Southee (2022) are the other batters to have this undesired feat.

What’s more fascinating is Shardul Thakur and Ashton Turner got out on zero off the first deliveries they faced in three consecutive innings, making it three golden ducks in a row!

Glenn Maxwell, Rashid Khan, and Sunil Narine have registered three or more ducks in three IPL seasons.

Narine’s ducks came in successive seasons in 2021, 2022, and 2023, making him the only batter to bag three or more ducks in three consecutive seasons.

Dinesh Karthik, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Sharma are the other batters to get out on zero three times in two seasons.
