ODIs, cricket’s traditional white-ball format is slowly losing its charm due to the advent of T20 cricket and the upward inclination of the general audience towards the shorter formats. Hence, the ODI games nowadays are played far & few, with the teams prioritizing Tests and T20Is over this format. It is to be noted that India, the most capped ODI team has played a mere 77 games since the start of the 2020 calendar year, winning 48 of them, including reaching the World Cup final in 2023. Still, when it comes to the multi-national events in cricket, the ODI World Cup is the pinnacle and has not lost its prestige.

Key Stats:

12: The number of batters to have scored 500 or more runs in the ODI format since the start of 2020. Rishabh Pant (525) and Sanju Samson (510) are the other players to cross the mark, apart from the ones mentioned above.

Five out of the 12 breached the 1500 ODI run mark in the said period, and only two of them, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, have amassed over 2000 runs in ODI cricket. Gill’s tally of 2312 is the fourth-highest in ODI cricket since 2020, after Babar Azam (2450), Shai Hope (2433), and Pathum Nissanka (2422), while Kohli comes in fifth. 7: Only Virat Kohli batted 50 or more times for India in the said period and scored the most tons. His tally of 7 centuries is the third most for any batter in ODIs since the beginning of 2020.

60.84: Gill has the best batting average for India followed by Sanju Samson (56.66) for batters with 500 or more ODI runs since 2020. The others to average over 50 for India are Virat Kohli (51.04) and KL Rahul (53.02).

113.59: Rohit Sharma’s strike rate is the best for India (min. 500 runs) in this period followed by Rishabh Pant (106.70).

8: The number of Indian batters to have scored an ODI century since 2020 and 20 of the 53 batters who batted at least one inning have scored a half-century.
