All-Time Records for Most Runs in 50 Successive Test Innings

Sir Don Bradman holds the record with 5038 runs scored between his 10th and 59th innings, including 11 scores of 200 plus and two triple centuries. His highest Test score of 334 came in his 13th Test inning.

West Indies legend Sir Viv Richards comes second, having accumulated 3483 runs between innings 18 and 67. He made 12 centuries in this phase, including his career best score of 291 against England at Kennington Oval.

Kumar Sangakkara achieved the third-highest total with 3481 runs between innings 100-149.

England’s Alastair Cook just about missed out on joining the list, as he ended up with 2999 runs in between innings number 107 and 156.


Highest Batting Averages and Century Milestones in 50 Test Innings in Row (Min. 3000 runs)

Sir Don Bradman has the highest average in a 50-inning sequence at 109.52. His tally of 21 centuries is again a record in this phase.

The batter with the second-best average is Kumar Sangakkara, who maintained at 77.36, and third best is Ricky Ponting, coming with an average of 77.16 in 50 innings.

The other batters who maintained an average of 75 or more include Wally Hammond (75.05) and Jacques Kallis (77.05).

Andy Flower (75.86) and Steve Waugh (77.97) both have an average of more than 75 in 50 successive Test innings but they didn’t cross the 3000-run mark. They each have scored 2807 runs in their respective peak 50-innings period.

While no one apart from Sir Don Bradman recorded 15 or more Test centuries in their peak 50-Test inning sequence, five batters, namely, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Sunil Gavaskar, Matthew Hayden, and Sir Clyde Walcott, come joint-second with 14 centuries each.

10 batters (Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Gary Sobers, Steven Smith, Mohammad Yousuf, Wally Hammond, Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, and David Warner) have scored 13 centuries each and they all take up the third position.

Leading Strike Rates and Consistency of Prolific Test Batters

Overall, 30 Test batters have accumulated 3000 or more in 50 successive Test innings and a total of 86 batters have scored at least 2500 runs.

Aside from the top 15 mentioned here, great batters like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Hashim Amla, Michael Clarke, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Kane Williamson, Younis Khan, Graham Gooch, Virender Sehwag, and David Warner, among others, all have scored over 3000 runs in their 50 successive Test innings.

Virender Sehwag has the highest strike rate (93.50) for a batter with at least 3000 Test runs in a 50-inning sequence. The right-hander had scored 3035 runs in between innings 91 & 140 at an average of 63.23 with 10 centuries.

David Warner has the second-best strike rate (81.98), having made 3017 runs with the help of 13 centuries. Harry Brook, too, has batted with a strike rate of 87.65, but he didn’t cross the 3000-run mark (2860 runs).
