Key Insights

Suresh Raina holds the record for scoring the most runs in the powerplay overs in an IPL match. The southpaw accumulated 87 runs off 25 balls he faced in the first six overs against the Kings XI Punjab during Qualifier 2 in 2014.

In the meantime, Raina reached his fifty in just 16 balls, which is the fastest fifty for CSK and also the quickest in an IPL Playoff match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 62 runs in 23 balls against KKR in 2023, brought up his half-century in a mere 13 balls, making it the fastest fifty in the league’s history.

There are 15 instances of batters scoring 55 or more runs in the powerplay in an IPL match. David Warner, Ishan Kishan, and Travis Head are the only batters to breach the 55-run mark in two or more matches.

Among the batters with 55+ runs in the powerplay, only two went on to convert their blistering starts into centuries. One of them is Sanath Jayasuriya, who scored an unbeaten 114 against CSK after collecting 59 runs in the first six overs. While the other batter is Warner, who notched up 129 versus KKR in 2017 after getting 62 runs in the powerplay.

Jayasuriya and Jonny Bairstow have smashed seven sixes in the powerplay overs, which is the most in an IPL match.
