T20 is perhaps the only format among the three international formats where it is still a batsman’s game, irrespective of the conditions. Meaning, whether the batter is batting at home or away, the surfaces around the globe favour them.

Though there may be some low-scoring games in between, the surfaces don’t aid bowlers to the same extent as in Tests or ODIs. At the same time, a batter at the international level should be well-equipped to handle bowlers from different countries with the help on offer across different conditions.

Key Insights on Leading Run-Scorers in Overseas T20Is

Record Holders for Total T20I Runs in Foreign Conditions

Ireland’s Paul Stirling has scored 2900-plus runs in away T20Is, the most by any batter in overseas conditions.

Uganda’s Simon Ssesazi, Tanzania’s Ivan Selemani (both in Rwanda), and Ireland’s Stirling (in the UAE) have scored 1000-plus runs in a foreign country in T20Is.

Bahrain’s Fiaz Ahmed has scored the most runs in a calendar year in away T20Is, aggregating 943 runs in 2025.


Top Overseas Performers: Centuries and Fifty-Plus Scores

Australia’s Aaron Finch has struck the highest individual score in an away T20I match, aggregating 172 against Zimbabwe in the 2018 Harare T20I. This is also the highest T20I score by a batter in any condition.

Babar Azam (Pakistan), Rohit Sharma (India), and Virat Kohli (India) have struck 25 or more fifty-plus scores in away-from-home T20Is.

Exceptional Overseas T20I Tours and Opposition Records

Salt’s two hundreds came in the 2023 tour of the West Indies. This is the joint-most centuries by a batter in an away bilateral T20I series, with India’s Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma being the other batters (both on the 2024 South Africa tour).

Salt aggregated 331 runs on the 2023 Caribbean tour, the most by a batter in an away bilateral T20I series.

Salt (vs West Indies) and Babar (vs New Zealand) are the two batters to score 600-plus runs at the home of the opposition in T20Is.


Dominant Average and Strike Rate Milestones in Away T20Is

Saudi Arabia’s Faisal Khan is the only batter with a strike rate above 170 in away matches in T20Is (minimum 500 balls faced).

Austria’s Karanbhir Singh and India’s Manish Pandey are the two batters with an average above 50 in away T20Is (minimum 20 innings batted).
