Andy Flower: The Record-Holder
Andy Flower holds the record for the most Test centuries for Zimbabwe with 12 tons. He also has a stunning average of 51.54 in 63 Tests. The left-hander holds several other records, including the most runs (4,794), the highest average for a Zimbabwean with a minimum of 500 Test runs, and the most fifty-plus scores (39).
Other Prolific Century-Makers
Andy Flower is in a league of his own, as no other Zimbabwean batter has scored more than six Test centuries. His brother, Grant Flower, is the country’s second most prolific run-getter (3,457) and has scored the joint second-most Test centuries (6), a record he shares with Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams.
Double Centurions and High Scores
Only four Zimbabwean batters have scored a Test double century: Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Andy Flower, and Grant Flower. Each of them has scored one solitary double century. Dave Houghton’s 266 against Sri Lanka at Bulawayo is the highest Test score by a Zimbabwean batter. Read in detail here.
Unique Records & Debutants
Dave Houghton was the first Zimbabwean to score a Test century, doing so in the country’s first-ever Test in 1992. He was joined by Hamilton Masakadza and Gary Ballance, who also scored tons on their Zimbabwe Test debuts. At 17 years and 352 days, Hamilton Masakadza became the youngest Zimbabwean to score a Test century. Gary Ballance became only the second batter after Kepler Wessels to score a Test century for two different countries, having also played for England.
Active Players
Sean Williams and Brendan Taylor are still active in Test cricket and have a chance to add to their century count. The current Test captain, Craig Ervine, has scored four Test centuries in 60 Test innings.
