Beyond the Numbers: Trends in West Indian Test 200s

Brian Lara holds the unique distinction of scoring the only 400 in Tests, along with a 375, both achieved against England. This places him twice in the top three of the highest individual scores in the Test cricket history.

In the fifth Test of his career in Sydney in 1993, the left-hander scored his maiden Test century, converting it into a double century of 277. He later named his daughter Sydney after this memorable innings at the SCG.

Apart from Lara, Gordon Greenidge scored four double centuries, while Chris Gayle and Viv Richards each have three. Notably, two of Chris Gayle’s three 200s were converted into 300s, joining Lara in this list.

Among the current batsmen (excluding Chris Gayle, who never made a formal, official announcement of retirement from all international cricket), Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, and Tagenarine Chanderpaul each have one double century to their name.

A patient 467-ball double ton from Tagenarine Chanderpaul at Bulawayo in February 2023 is the latest 200 scored by a West Indian cricketer.
