Top 10: Most Test Wins as Players

Being part of a winning Test team is always special in cricket.

Cricket from the mid-90s to mid-20s was ruled and dominated by the Australian team under the captaincies of Steve Waugh first and Ricky Ponting later across formats. They won three ODI World Cups and dominated the Test rankings throughout this period. During that phase, the Test wins came home and away for the Australian cricketers.

It is also important to note that Australia has the lowest loss% in overall Test history, thanks to this particular set of players.

The below table, which lists the cricketers with the most Test wins by players, also states the same.

Key Stats

Six out of 10 names are from Australia’s golden era in cricket.

Adam Gilchrist’s winning percentage is exceptional, even in the group of successive Aussie players.

James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar are among the top ten cricketers involved in most Test losses.

Among the current-day cricketers, Stuart Broad, Nathan Lyon, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ravichandran Ashwin have been part of 50+ Test wins.

As captain, Ponting has 48 wins. Graeme Smith of South Africa has led his team to 53 Test wins, the highest by any captain. However, Smith’s 29 Test losses as captain are also the highest in the format, whereas Ponting only has 16 Test losses as captain, which is a mighty feat!
