ODI Stats: Most Runs in Winning Cause

There’s no better feeling than helping your team win matches by contributing significantly. Batters are expected to score a bulk of runs to make the bowlers job simple and set up easy victories for their team.

Over the years, we have seen many batters carrying their teams over the ropes just through their consistent run-making. India’s Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are the prime examples of it.

On that note, here are the top 10 batters with the most runs in winning causes.

Key Insights

1: Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring the most ODI runs in winning causes. He amassed 11157 runs in 231 innings, including 33 hundreds and 59 fifties.

42: Virat Kohli’s centuries that came in India’s ODI victories. This is the most ODI centuries smashed by a batter in winning causes. Tendulkar and Ponting (25) are the other two batters with 25 or more hundreds in wins.

70: Virat Kohli is the only batter with 5000-plus runs to score at an average of above 70 in ODI victories. His average is hovering around 75, with more than 10000 runs under his belt.

121.54: Shahid Afridi’s batting strike rate in winning causes. The former Pakistan all-rounder contributed 5116 runs in wins at a strike rate of 121.54, which is the highest among the batters with 5000-plus runs. Virender Sehwag (109.52), AB de Villiers (107.35), and Quinton de Kock (100.29) are the other three batters with 100-plus strike rates in wins.

5000: Over 33 batters have contributed 5000-plus runs in winning causes in ODI cricket.

264: Rohit Sharma’s score against Sri Lanka in 2014. His mighty 264 is the highest individual score in an ODI victory. Sharma is also the only batter to hammer three double tons in winning causes.

262: Ricky Ponting has appeared in most ODI wins, featuring in a record 261 winning matches for Australia and one game for ICC XI.

6984: Ponting has also scored the most runs in wins as a captain. The former Australian skipper amassed 6984 runs in 165 matches at an average of 50.97. He is the only captain to score 5000-plus runs in ODI wins.
