IPL 2024: List of Players Rajasthan Royals Should Target at the Mini-Auction

After a stunning run in the IPL 2022 season, where they reached the final, the Rajasthan Royals failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last season. However, they didn’t make that many changes to their squad in the recently concluded retention, and with the transfer of Devdutt Padikkal and the release of Jason Holder, they freed themselves with 14.5 crores at the auctions.

RR Retained, Released, and Traded Players

Current squad: Sanju Samson (c) (wk), Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Adam Zampa, Avesh Khan

Released players: Joe Root, Abdul Basith, Jason Holder, Akash Vashisht, Kuldip Yadav, Obed McCoy, Murugan Ashwin, KC Cariappa, KM Asif

Traded players: Devdutt Padikkal to LSG, Avesh Khan from LSG

Purse remaining: 14.5 crores

What are some of the weaknesses in their present squad?

The current Royals squad has a great mixture of experience and youth, especially in the bowling department, where they have covered most of the bases. With the arrival of Avesh Khan, the Indian contingent of pacers has just gotten stronger, and their real focus must be to get a solid Indian or an overseas middle-order. They had top-heavy batting last time around, which haunted them badly.

Players whom RR will target in the IPL 2024 mini-auction?

1. Harry Brook

Brook, despite scoring a century last season for SRH, had a poor debut outing overall and was subsequently released from the team. With RR needing an overseas batter in the middle order, Harry Brook can be a handy acquisition for them.

2. Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur has the potential to be chased by many teams in the auctions due to the balance he provides in the shortest format. He is a wicket-taker and can bat down the order. With the Royals not having much batting depth last season, Shardul’s inclusion might solve those woes for them.

3. Shahrukh Khan

Rajasthan Royals had many known finishers in the past, but the current Indian crop has let them down on most occasions. The likes of Riyan Parag have not made any impact whatsoever, despite many chances, and RR might go for this talented Indian finisher.

4. Chris Woakes

The England pacer has made himself available for the auctions and could attract bids from the Royals, who might want a stand-by for Trent Boult, who is a certainty on the side. Woakes did quite well in the recent World Cup in India and could be a good addition to the Royals.
