IPL 2025: Players Rajasthan Royals would look to retain ahead of the Mega Auction

Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural IPL champions haven’t held the silverware since they won in 2008, but have been consistent in the last few seasons. This is largely thanks to the team they have had in the last cycle and the core is pretty much set to take this side into the future. With the teams set to decide their 2025 retentions in a couple of weeks, we will look at the potential retained players from the Rajasthan Royals franchise.

Sanju Samson

The Rajasthan Royals skipper has led the team from the front with his solid batting coupled with some fantastic captaincy. Since taking over the mantle in 2021, Samson has crossed the 450-run mark in three of the four seasons and amassed 3742 runs for the franchise at an impressive strike rate of 141.31 in 135 innings. These numbers should be enough for the Royals to retain him before the auctions.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

The left-hander has been rocking at the international level since making his India debut in 2023, just like he took IPL by storm for the Rajasthan Royals. Jaiswal has featured in an IPL game 53 times scoring 1607 runs at an incredible strike rate of 150.61, striking two centuries. Like Samson, the 22-year-old has made a tremendous impact on the Royals’ team and will continue to do so in the coming years.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler has had the time of his life in the IPL since being part of the Royals’ team in 2018 scoring 3055 runs in 82 innings at an astounding strike rate of 147.80 with 7 tons, second most in IPL history. Apart from this, Buttler has formed a potent partnership with Jaiswal at the top of the order, and this has been detrimental to the side winning games.

Trent Boult

The left-arm pacer is a massive addition to any side and has proved to be a match-winner for the Royals in the three-year stint he had with them. Having represented the Royals in 42 games, Trent Boult has picked 45 wickets and is one of the reasons why Rajasthan reached playoffs in two of those seasons. He is likely to remain with the team and play a crucial role in the seasons to come.

Yuzvendra Chahal (RTM)

The most successful bowler of all time in IPL, Yuzvendra Chahal will be among the players Royals’ would like to retain. While he may not be retained directly by the franchise, Royals would want to use RTM for this wily leg spinner, who has taken a whopping 66 wickets for them in 42 games, since being of the setup in the 2022 season.

Sandeep Sharma (Uncapped)

Sandeep Sharma hasn’t been a centrally contracted BCCI for the last five years and this means, he will be an uncapped player as per the retention rules. With tons of experience in IPL cricket, Sandeep Sharma is a prolific wicket-taker and has done pretty well for the Royals in the last two seasons. He could very well be the uncapped retention for the Jaipur-based side.
