Sourav Ganguly – ODI Runs Year by Year

Sourav Ganguly is fondly called by many names by his fans. The famous ones are the God of Offside batting, Dada, and the Prince of Kolkata.

Also, the cricketer-turned-bcci-head is invariably known for his run-making ability.

Even though Ganguly made his debut in 1992, it took three strenuous years for the former captain to play his 2nd ODI game. But since then, the left-hander never looked back as he kept piling up runs for Team India year after year.

1999 and 2000 were Sourav’s best years in ODI cricket, as he scored more than 1500 runs in both these years. Also, he became the captain in the year 2000, and the majority of his runs (1223 runs, including 5 centuries) that year came in captain’s knocks, making him one of the entrants in this elite captain’s record chart.

Also, his 7 centuries recorded in 2000 holds him the joint-second place in the list of batters who have reached the most number of triple-digit knocks within a calendar year.

The start of the new millinea is also the best year for Sourav in terms of batting average. He recorded the only 50+ calendar year average of his career in 2000. He averaged an overall 41.02.

Sourav’s highest ODI score of 183 came against Sri Lanka in a 1999 ODI World Cup match. It is currently the 4th highest score by a player in the ODI WC.
