Ever since Twenty20 cricket made its debut in the international arena in the late 2004s (First Women’s T20I Match) and the early 2005s (First Men’s T20 Match), the format has seen a rise in popularity and, thus, a hike in the number of matches every year.

The format saw its first World Cup in 2007. Two teams, India and Pakistan, said to be the last to accept the idea of T20 Internationals, reached the finals. Men in Blue, under the new and refreshing leadership of MS Dhoni for the first time, won the inaugural T20 World Cup.

Who won the T20 World Cup most number of times?

West Indies are the first team to win the T20 World Cup two times in tournament history. The Caribbean team claimed the championships in 2012 and 2016. England joined them by claiming the championship in 2022 in Australia.

The other teams to win T20 World Cup are India, Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, and Australia. All these teams have won once.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan have reached the finals thrice in the tournament, whereas India, West Indies, England, & Australia twice. New Zealand in 2021 has entered the grand finale for the first and their only time so far.

Who are the most successful cricketers in T20 World Cup?

Virat Kohli is the only player to win the Man of the Series award twice in the history of the T20 World Cup in two consecutive seasons in 2014 and 2016.
