Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have the most purple cap-winning bowlers in the IPL. Three bowlers have achieved the feat for them, with Dwayne Bravo doing it first, followed by Mohit Sharma and Imran Tahir.
CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had one bowler each winning the purple cap twice in the IPL. Bravo did it twice for CSK in 2013 and 2015, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar did so in 2016 and 2017.
CSK, meanwhile, are the only team to have a purple cap winning-bowler in three consecutive IPL seasons. In between the chart-topping editions of Bravo, Mohit Sharma claimed the pole position in 2014.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are one of the eight original IPL teams without a purple cap winner.
CSK and Delhi Capitals (DC) are the two teams with two overseas bowlers each winning the purple cap in this league.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s feat is the only instance of a bowler winning the purple cap in two consecutive seasons for an IPL team.
Harshal Patel is the only bowler to win the purple cap for two different teams at least once each. He first topped the wicket chart for RCB in 2021 and repeated it in 2024 for Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Bravo and Harshal have also taken the joint-most wickets in an IPL season, with both claiming 32 each in 2013 and 2021.
CSK, DC, Gujarat Titans and PBKS, meanwhile, have had two fast bowlers each top the wicket column in different IPL seasons.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) were the first team with a purple cap winner in the IPL. Sohail Tanvir bagged the honour in the inaugural season with 22 wickets.
RR (2008), Deccan Chargers (2009) and SRH (2016) are the only teams to have a purple cap winner in their respective title-winning seasons.
CSK, RR and Deccan Chargers have had at least one fast bowler and at least one spinner win the purple cap in the IPL.
