Suryakumar Yadav is among the top players who have started to play consistently for India & represent the nation on the international circuit of cricket. Popularly know as SKY, the current Indian middle-order batter has been phenomenal in the last couple of IPL seasons, and while playing for Mumbai Indians, SKY have played some brilliant knocks to get the team to victory. At the time of writing this article, Surya has played 115 matches and scored 2341 with a decent average of 28.9 in IPL.
Previously from 2014 to 2017, he was in KKR where he played in the position of lower-middle order or as a finisher which didn’t suit his batting style.
Suryakumar Yadav currently is at the top of his career where his form is assisting him in playing prime roles for MI & in two formats where he has been representing India. In his long 10-year career in IPL, he had played many magical innings where he successfully took his respected teams to a crystal clear victory over hefty opponents.
Beneath are his top 5 knocks from the IPL, which mesmerises each & every fan of SKY:
#1 79*(43) RCB vs MI in 2020
In the 2nd encounter of the league phase, RCB was phasing Mumbai Indians at Sheikh Zayed cricket ground, Abu Dhabi. While batting first, Virat Kohli & company posted 164/6 with the help of a rocking knock of 74(45) from Devdutt Paddikal. This was a tricky score to chase down on the slow & turning tracks of Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. But Surya Kumar had made it look straightforward with his blistering knock of 79* in just 43 deliveries, including 10 fours & 3 sixes, which took Mumbai Indians to a thunderous victory over RCB.
#2 72(47) MI vs RR in 2018
In a match against Sanju Samson leading Rajasthan Royals, Surya helped Mumbai Indians post a score of 162 on the scoreboard by playing a high-quality knock of 72 runs. But in the end, he was standing on the disappointing side as Mumbai Indian lost the match due to a rock-solid cameo of Krishnappa Gowtham. He played a crucial inning of 33 runs in just 11 balls which defied the victory of Rajasthan despite the tough fightback of Mumbai Indians.
#3 71*(54) MI vs CSK in 2019
It was a high-action-packed match between the arch-nemesis Chennai Super Kings & Mumbai Indians, which wasn’t as attractive as it usually does. MI had won the toss and invited CSK for batting first, and with the help of top-order batting, Chennai reached a very mediocre score of 131/4, which wasn’t a par one on the surface of MA Chidambaram Stadium, Bangalore. Mumbai lost their openers very early, which created an amusement in the game, but Suryakumar Yadav(71*) & Ishan Kishan(28) held nerves for Mumbai Indians Surya hit the winning runs, which resulted in a victory of MI by 6 wickets.
#4 60(49) KKR vs RPS in 2016
Back in Suryakumar Yadav’s KKR days, this knock was his top-notch one for Kolkata under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. After winning a toss, RPS had been invited to bat first on a complex surface of MCA, Pune. They had made a decent score of 160 runs with the loss of 6 wickets; the start for KKR wasn’t up to the mark as Robin Uthappa & Gautam Gambhir walked back very cheaply. But, as Surya stepped and scored a composed knock of 60(49) under immense pressure, the dynamics changed completely.
#5 53(32) MI vs DC in 2018
Match No.9 of IPL’s 11th edition had been played between Mumbai & Delhi, where Rohit Sharma’s Paltans had been invited to roll their bats early on. With the help of Suryakumar Yadav’s gritty fifty & Evin lewis/Ishan Kishan’s 40+ knock, Mumbai Indians had launched a scoreboard on 194/7. But, Mumbai’s winning party was spoiled by Jason Roy, as the English opener had scored 91*in 53 deliveries, and DC won the match by 7 wickets on the last ball of the innings.
