Which India A player/players can get selected for the West Indies tour?

India’s campaign at World Cup 2019 ended on 11th July against New Zealand. Their next tour is of West Indies starting from 3rd August. As some of the players may get a rest after two long tournaments IPL and World Cup, BCCI scheduled India A tour to West Indies which started from 11th July to find some fresh players. At present, the five-match one-day series is 3-1 in favour of India A. The meeting for selecting the team for the West Indies tour will take place on 21st July.

In the India A series, there has been some tidy performances from both the batsmen and the bowlers. Therefore, there are chances that some of them could play in the West Indies series in place of senior players who may be given rest.

SHUBMAN GILL:

Gill, on many occasions, has manifested his intent at the domestic and IPL level of what he is capable of. Further, in this A tour, Gill has scored 149 runs in three matches at an average of 50. Therefore, with Shikhar Dhawan injured, India will require a fine opener if not in their playing XI but definitely as a back-up.

# SHREYAS IYER:

After leading the Delhi team in the IPL fairly well, Iyer exhibited a match-winning performance in the first one-day match against West Indies A side. He was the highest run-scorer with 77 runs. Further, he has made 126 runs in three matches at an average of 42. Therefore, the selectors could pick Iyer for the West Indies tour if selectors rest Virat Kohli.

# KHALEEL AHMED:

Khaleel had a great IPL this year. He was sixth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. He has carried on his form of IPL in this A tour. Moreover, he has picked eight wickets in three matches. Therefore, he has made a strong point for his selection against the senior West Indies team. Even the selectors may try a mixture of having a left-arm pace bowler in the squad.

# NAVDEEP SAINI:

Navdeep was the pick of the bowlers from the RCB in this year’s IPL. His IPL performance tempted the selectors to have him in the standby for the World Cup. He has picked six wickets in three matches, which includes one five-wicket haul in this A tour. Therefore, the selectors could pick him for the West Indies tour if selectors rest Jasprit Bumrah.

Therefore, these players would be excited to get picked for the West Indies tour. However, in whichever player the selectors invest, they must provide him a fair chance to prove his performance.
