We all know what happened in 2022’s last Friday in a very unfortunate incident. Star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant got injured in an accident when his car ended up in a divider on the Dehradun highway.
The good news is that Pant is very stable now and has started his treatment, but it would take him six months or more at least to again play competitive cricket. Keeping this in mind, one can get hold of the fact that we would be seeing a different wicketkeeper in an important upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia starting from February 9, when the Aussies would be coming to India.
Now talking about this, in this article, we will focus on who could be the possible replacements and may get a chance to play in place of Pant:
Ishan Kishan
Now you would be shocked to see him being a part of this list because he has been nowhere near the Test team setup. But seeing his recent good performances in ODI cricket, we can see him being a part of the Test side, considering his similarities with Pant being a southpaw and a naturally aggressive batsman providing the same flavor as that Pant.
Not based on his one ODI innings, I have thought about him being in the mix; rather, one can see how great he has been in Ranji. He can be seen as the like-for-like replacement.
Sarfaraz Khan
This crazy guy has been scoring daddy hundreds and more and more runs for fun, and it has been a couple of years since him doing so in the domestic circuit. It’s high time to let him get a chance to play at the highest level of cricket and represent India.
There have been a lot of talks around his scintillating form still it is sad that this lad hasn’t got his debut yet. He recently hit his 12th first-class hundred in just 50 innings he has played yet. It’s high time he gets his much-deserved opportunity.
KS Bharat
Andhra Pradesh-born talented right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman Bharat has been in talks for a long time and has been traveling as a standby for Pant with the team. Also, the first wicketkeeper in Ranji Trophy with a triple hundred is a thing to think about.
In the 84 domestic Test matches he has played, he has amassed a total of 4533 runs, including nine triple-digit scores and 25 fifties, which shows his capabilities. It seems like this could be his chance to seize the moment and get in the mix of the team.
The Wrap
It’s a problem of plenty for selectors because Bharat has been waiting for a while now. Kishan could have the same strength and similarities as that Pant. Interestingly, Khan also deserves the same, with him piling up a good amount of runs in the domestic circuit for a while now. It would be interesting to see who would get selected for the upcoming tour.
