South Africa have recorded the highest successful run chase in T20I cricket. They gunned down a 259-run target set by the West Indies (258/5) in the 2023 Centurion T20I.
Since the West Indies failed to defend 258 for 5, it became the highest team total in a losing cause in T20Is.
The West Indies and South Africa share the record for the highest match aggregate in T20Is, as they collectively scored 517 runs (258/5 & 259/4) in the Centurion match.
Australia’s 244-run chase against New Zealand in the 2018 Auckland T20I is the highest by a team in an overseas T20I match.
Associate Nations and Rapid Chase Milestones
Bulgaria have made the highest successful run chase among associate teams in T20Is. They chased down a 244-run target against Gibraltar in a 2025 tri-series in Sofia.
Serbia have recorded the fastest 200-plus run chase in T20Is, having thrashed a 200-run target against Slovenia in 14.1 overs in the 2025 Belgrade T20I.
Romania have achieved the highest run rate in a successful run chase in T20Is. They overhauled a 116-run target at a run rate of 20.47 against Serbia in 2021.
This is also the fastest 100-plus run chase by a team in T20Is, as Romania took just 5.4 overs to reach the 116-run target.
Romania’s 116 for 0 is also the highest score by a team in the powerplay overs in T20Is.
