With T20Is being the current norm, where the interest of the majority cricket audience lies, and the T20 World Cup is held once in two years, teams are more interested in including the shortest format in every bilateral tour.
Nowadays, we also witness teams travelling to other countries to play just T20I matches.

Milestone Records for Most T20I Appearances
India’s Rohit Sharma became the first player to feature in 150 men’s T20I matches. He retired with 159 caps, scoring 4231 runs, including five centuries.
Rohit’s 4231 runs and five centuries are the most by an Indian batter in T20I cricket.
Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik was the first player to appear in 100 men’s T20I matches. He ended up with 124 caps, scoring 2435 runs and 28 wickets.
Rwanda’s Zappy Bimenyimana is the fastest player to play 100 T20I matches, reaching the mark in four years and 119 days from his debut in 2021.
India’s Suryakumar Yadav is the only other player to play 100 T20I matches within five years, taking four years and 314 days.
Scotland’s Richard Berrington, meanwhile, is the slowest player to earn 100 caps in T20Is, getting there in 16 years and 341 days from his debut in 2008.
Age-Related Debuts and Milestone Achievements
Romania’s Marian Gherasim is the youngest player to debut in men’s T20I cricket. He was 14 years and 16 days old on his T20I debut against Bulgaria in 2020. (Check the youngest T20I captains here.)
Greece’s Alkinoos Manatos (14y 207d), Kuwait’s Meet Bhavsar (14y 211d), and Sierra Leone’s George Sesay (14y 311d) are the other players to debut before turning 15.
Falkland Islands’ Andrew Brownlee is the oldest player to debut in T20Is. He earned his maiden cap at the age of 62 years and 145 days against Costa Rica in 2025.
Pakistan’s Shadab Khan is the youngest player to earn 100 T20I caps, achieving the mark at the age of 25 years and 240 days.
Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez, on the other hand, played his 100th T20I match at the age of 40 years and 176 days, making him the oldest to reach the mark.
Individual Performance and Multi-Nation Records
Roelof van der Merwe (South Africa & Netherlands), Nitish Kumar (Canada & USA), Corey Anderson (New Zealand & USA), David Wiese (South Africa & Namibia), Mark Chapman (Hong Kong & New Zealand), and Tim David (Singapore & Australia) have played 10 or more matches for two nations each in T20Is.
Hong Kong’s Nizakat Khan and Malaysia’s Syed Aziz have played 100-plus matches each in a row for their respective teams in T20Is.
Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams (both from Zimbabwe) and Ross Taylor (New Zealand/Samoa) have had an 18-plus-year-long career in T20Is.
Ferdinando Banunaek, Danilson Hawoe, and Dharma Kesuma (all from Indonesia) played 41 matches each in 2025, the joint-most by a player in a calendar year in T20Is.
Rwanda’s Clinton Rubagumya is the only captain to lead a team in 90 or more matches in T20Is.
