Key Insights on Rashid Khan’s T20I Wicket-Taking Records

Career Milestone and Speed Records in T20Is

Rashid Khan completed his 50 T20I wickets in 2018, taking only 31 matches, which remains the fewest among Afghanistan bowlers.

He claimed his 100th T20I wicket during the 2021 World Cup, reaching the milestone in 53 matches, the fewest by any bowler in the format’s history.

The Afghan leg-spinner secured his 150th T20I wicket in his 92nd match in 2024, making him the fastest player to achieve this landmark.

By the end of 2025, Rashid became only the second bowler to pick up 20 or more scalps each in five different years in T20Is.

He is also the only spinner to feature in the top 10 bowlers with most wickets in death overs in T20I cricket.

Annual Bowling Statistics and Performance Metrics

In 2016, Rashid claimed 23 wickets in 15 innings at an economy of 6.28, becoming the first Afghanistan bowler to take 20 wickets in a calendar year.

His economy rate of 4.57 in 2017 is the lowest recorded by an Afghanistan bowler in a calendar year (minimum 100 balls bowled).

During 2018, he averaged 8.68 with a bowling strike rate of 8.1, both of which were the lowest among full-member bowlers for that year.

He became the first bowler to take 20 or more wickets in two consecutive years (2018 and 2019) in T20Is.

Rashid is the only full-member bowler to produce 4 four-wicket hauls in a single year, achieving this feat in 2024. Here’s one of his important 4-wicket hauls that won an important game for his team against New Zealand in a 2024 World Cup game.

While he faced challenges in 2022, averaging 23.26 per wicket, he bounced back in 2024 with 31 wickets in 14 innings.

World Cup and Bilateral Series Impact

During the 2024 T20 World Cup, he claimed 14 wickets, the second-most for Afghanistan in a single edition of the tournament.

In 2017, he recorded his career-best figures of 5 wickets for 3 runs against Ireland to defend a total of 185.

He finished the 2017 three-match series against Ireland with nine wickets, the joint-second most for Afghanistan in a bilateral series.
