Clinton Rubagumya has lost the most T20I matches as a captain, with over 60 defeats to his name as Rwanda’s skipper.

Among full-member captains, Kane Williamson tops the chart with 35 losses as New Zealand’s skipper.

Rubagumya lost 23 of his matches in 2023, the most by a captain in a calendar year in T20Is.

Longest Losing Streaks and Undefeated Records

Slovenia’s Izaz Ali has lost 11 matches in a row. This is the longest losing streak by a captain in T20Is.

South Korea’s Jun Hyunwoo has a 100 per cent loss record as a skipper, facing defeat in each of his 10 matches as South Korea’s captain (minimum 10 matches as captain).

Rubagumya, Brendan Taylor (Zimbabwe), Luwsanzundui Erdenebulgan (Mongolia), and Htet Lin Aung (Myanmar) are the other skippers to concede 10 consecutive defeats in T20Is.


Captains’ Defeats by Venue and Opponent

Rubagumya is the only captain to lose more than 30 T20Is in his home countryRwanda.

Most of those defeats have come at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium in Rwanda.

Rubagumya is the only skipper to lose 15 or more matches against two opponents in T20Is – Uganda and Tanzania.

Taylor’s (Brendan Taylor) streak was part of Zimbabwe’s 16-match losing streak between May 2010 and March 2013, the most defeats by a team in a row in T20Is.
