Record-Breaking Individual Performance in Chases

Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most runs while chasing in a calendar year in ODIs. He aggregated 1347 runs at an average of 84.18 in 20 chases in 1998.

1023 of Tendulkar’s 1347 runs came in India’s wins, the most by a batter in a year in successful ODI chases.

Tendulkar’s run tally included seven centuries, the most by a batter while batting second in a calendar year in ODIs.

Overall, Sachin crossed the 50-run mark 12 times, the most by a batter in ODI chases in a year.

Virat Kohli has the highest batting average while batting second in a year in ODIs (minimum 500 balls faced). He averaged 137.4 while scoring 687 runs, including four centuries, in eight innings in 2018.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the only batter to average above 100 in ODI chases in two years. He, in fact, achieved the feat in consecutive years in 2007 (107.33) and 2008 (103.50).

Consistency and Multi-Year Chasing Milestones

Virat Kohli has struck above 100 while chasing in three years – 102.73 in 2013, 102.26 in 2014, and 104.40 in 2018. He is the only batter to do so.

Kohli has scored 500 or more runs while batting second in eight years in ODIs, the most by any batter.

Virat is the only batter to score 500-plus runs in the second innings in five consecutive years in ODIs.

Kumar Sangakkara has aggregated the most runs as a wicketkeeper in a year in ODI chases. He scored 630 runs in 15 innings for Sri Lanka in 2012.

Quinton de Kock has scored the most runs at home in a year in ODI chases. He collected 570 runs in seven innings in South Africa in 2016.

In away chases, Australia’s David Warner tops the chart with 548 runs in 11 innings in 2016.
