Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed has the best bowling figures in a losing cause on ODI debut. He fetched five wickets for 28 runs against India in the rain-curtailed 2014 Mirpur ODI.

South Africa’s Allan Donald is the only other debutant to pick up a five-for in an ODI loss, having returned 5 for 29 against India in 1991.

Australia’s Greg Chappell has claimed the best bowling figures as a captain in an ODI loss. He returned 5 for 20 against England in the 1977 Birmingham ODI, which Australia lost by 101 runs.


Career Statistics and Most Expensive Spells in ODI Defeats

Netherlands Bas de Leede has delivered the most expensive spell in an ODI loss. He conceded 115 runs for two wickets in 10 overs against Australia in the 2023 World Cup. This is also the most expensive spell in men’s ODIs.

Chaminda Vaas leads the wickets column in ODI losses, having picked up 166 scalps in 140 defeats for Sri Lanka.

Lasith Malinga has taken the most four-wicket hauls in losing causes in ODIs, with seven spells to his name.
