Elite List: Double Century and Century in the Same Test Match

Scoring a double ton in Test cricket has always been a greater achievement for any batter. Gracing the feat with a century in other innings of the same Test match will only make it more special.

Only 8 batsmen in the entire history of Test cricket have registered scores of 200 and 100 in the same Test match. Let’s look at them.

Major contributions to this list are from the Australian batters – Greg Chappell and Doug Walters, who represented Australia from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, and Marnus Labuschagne, the recent entrant to the list.

Graham Gooch and Kumar Sangakkara are the only two players with a triple century and a century in the same Test match.

Sunil Gavaskar is the only player on the list to hit a century in the first innings and follow it with a double century in the second innings of the same Test match. Gavaskar is also the only player in cricketing history to have 200+ scores in all four innings in Tests, thereby making the list of only 6 players with a 4th innings double century.

Brian Lara’s performance against Sri Lanka (221 & 130) is the only entrant in the above list to occur in a losing cause. Three of the other seven performances came in the winning matches (Gooch, Labuschagne, and Walters), and the rest ended in a draw.
