For any international batsman, reaching 1000 runs in ODI cricket is a huge milestone and a building block for a sustainable international career ahead. 100 ODI wickets for a bowler is an equally special feat, if not even greater. Considering even one of the aforementioned milestones is immensely tough to achieve, it’s certain there aren’t many to have completed them both. In the long history of ODI cricket spanning over 49 years, mere 64 players have managed to complete the ODI double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets.
Almost all the cricket enthusiasts are aware of Fakhar Zaman, the fastest batsman to 1000 ODI runs, and Rashid Khan, the fastest bowler to 100 ODI wickets. But, in this article, we’ll be unravelling the players who have achieved both those feats.
Sir Richard Hadlee was the first player to achieve this rare feat in ODI cricket. On 14th January 1986, Hadlee became the first inductee of this elite achievement playing at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground against Austalia. Despite being the first to do so, Richard Hadlee isn’t the fastest (in terms of matches taken to achieve it) and has been taken over by several players.
So, let’s get into the article and find out the 5 players to complete 1000 runs and 100 wickets in ODIs in least number of matches:
5. Irfan Pathan (India) (72 Matches)
It didn’t take Irfan long to complete 100 ODI wickets as he did so in mere 59 matches. In fact, Irfan Pathan is the joint 12th fastest bowler to take 100 wickets in One Day Internationals. But, it took him 72 matches to complete his 1000 runs in One Day Internationals, with which he etched his name in the list of players with 1000 runs and 100 wickets in ODI cricket.
Left-arm bowler and left-handed lower-order batsman, Irfan Pathan, had an underwhelming international career despite having a promising start. Playing 120 One Day Internationals for India, Irfan Pathan aggregated 1544 runs with 5 half-centuries and 173 wickets with 2 five-wicket hauls.
