Fastest Batters to Reach the 6000-Run Mark in ODIs

Hashim Amla and Babar Azam are the joint fastest to score 6000 runs in ODIs, each taking 123 innings and 126 matches.

South Africa’s Quinton de Kock also needed 141 innings to score 6000 ODI runs to become the fastest wicketkeeper to reach the mark. Overall, he took 142 innings, with one outing coming as a non-wicketkeeper.


Records by Batting Position and Role

Rohit Sharma is the fastest opener to aggregate 6000 runs, completing the milestone in 121 innings while opening for India.

Ricky Ponting is the fastest among the three captains who’ve scored 6000 runs, taking 157 innings. He is also the overall highest scorer of runs as an ODI captain.

MS Dhoni needed 178 outings as a skipper to surpass the mark, while Stephen Fleming (210) took the most innings as a skipper.


Time Taken and Slowest to the Milestone

Virat Kohli is the quickest to 6000 ODI runs by time. He crossed the mark in six years and 83 days from his debut in 2008.

MS Dhoni (6y 100d), Mohammad Yousuf (6y 192d), and Rahul Dravid (6y 229d) are the others to surpass the mark within seven years.

Paul Stirling is the slowest in terms of time taken. While he became the first Irish batter to cross 6000 ODI runs in 162 innings, he needed 16 years and 328 days.

Pakistan’s Javed Miandad (16y 222d) and Shoaib Malik (16y 28d) are the other batters to take more than 16 years to reach the milestone.

Shahid Afridi is the slowest batter to complete 6000 ODI runs, reaching the mark in 276 innings. However, his ODI sixes numbers are unbeatable for a long time.

Babar Azam averaged 55.73 after reaching 6000 ODI runs, the highest average by a batter after surpassing the mark.
