If there is a side that has done much chopping and changing to their squad regularly, it has to be the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. Ahead of the 2023 mini auctions, SRH has let go half of their squad as they retained only 12 from the team representing the franchise in 2022.
What happened?
Kane Williamson, who captained the team Orange in the 2022 edition, was surprisingly released by the team as a part of the complete overhaul of the squad. Along with him, the other expensive signing Nicholas Pooran, who had an ordinary IPL, was axed from the team, and so was Romario Shepard. They were part of a chunk of 12 players who faced the same fate during the retentions.

As a result of the bulk release that includes 3 of their most expensive buys from the last season, SRH now has 42.25 crores left in their bag to fill 4 overseas slots and buy some quality Indian talents. At the same time, SRH may be looking to get back the duo of Pooran-Williamson at a lower price, but they need to find some from the pool of foreign players to replace them and bolster the batting order, which was a cause of concern for them.
Also, they need firepower at the lower middle order which let them down in the last few seasons.
