Joe Root, Steve Smith, Rahul Dravid, Mahela Jayawardene and Jacques Kallis are the four fielders to complete 200-plus catches in Tests.

Australia’s Bob Simpson is the fastest fielder to hold onto 100 Test catches, achieving the feat in 54 Tests, followed by Ross Taylor (60 Tests).
Simpson has also taken the most catches in the first 60 Tests by any cricketer.
Sachin Tendulkar is the slowest fielder to pick up 100 catches in Tests. He had to wait till his 154th Test to reach the mark.
The first specialist fielder to take 100 Test catches was England’s Wally Hammond. He reached the mark in 1939.
Viv Richards took the 100th catch of his career in exactly 100 Tests.

Australia’s Steven Smith is the only fielder to take five catches each in two Test innings.
South Africa’s Aiden Markram has held onto the most catches in a single Test match. He pocketed nine catches – five in the first and four in the second innings – against India in the 2025 Guwahati Test.
Australia’s Jack Gregory has taken the most catches in a bilateral Test series, having picked up 15 catches against England in the 1920-21 Ashes.
Steven Smith, Mahela Jayawardene, Joe Root, Jacques Kallis, Alastair Cook and Ricky Ponting have held onto 100 or more catches in a single country in Tests.
Steven Smith is the only fielder to hold onto 70 or more catches against an opponent team, having achieved it against England.
Graeme Smith holds the record for the most catches in a calendar year in Tests. He pocketed 30 catches in 28 innings for South Africa in 2008.
Dominant Bowler-Fielder Combinations in Tests
The Sri Lankan pair of Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene lead as the most successful bowler-fielder combination in Tests. Jayawardene pouched 77 catches off Murali’s bowling.
Nathan Lyon-Steven Smith, Anil Kumble-Dravid, Shane Warne-Mark Taylor and Harbhajan Singh-Dravid are the other bowler-fielder combinations with 50-plus catches in Tests.
Dravid is the only fielder to claim 50 or more catches each off two bowlers in Tests.
