Sachin Tendulkar in 1998 had a dream year in cricket. Sachin scored 12 centuries in all formats combined, which is the record for most centuries in a calendar year in all formats.

Interestingly, Sachin’s nine centuries in ODIs in 1998 are also the record for the most 100s in ODIs in a single year – one of the records in Sachin’s huge pile of cricketing records!

Eleven times Tendulkar scored five or more hundreds across formats in a year, the most by a batter. Seven of those instances came in a row between 1996 and 2002.

Ricky Ponting in 2003 and Virat Kohli in 2017 and 2018 came so close to Tendulkar’s tally by scoring 11 centuries across formats in the respective years.

Kohli is the only batter to score more than 10 hundreds in two years. What’s impressive is he achieved the feat in consecutive years!

Four Indian batters have smashed 10 or more ODI centuries in at least one calendar year, the most from a team. Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma are the other two batters apart from Tendulkar and Kohli.

In Test cricket, Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf had a wonderful year in 2006, breaking all the calendar year records. In that year, Yousuf scored 1788, which is the maximum runs scored by a batsman in Test cricket in a calendar year ever.
