Key Insights
Only five times in Test cricket history, seven dismissals have been made in a single innings of a Test match by a wicketkeeper.
The recent entry to the list is Joshua Da Silva against South Africa in the 2023 Centurion Test, thanks to the Windies’ fast bowler, Kemar Roach, who picked a fifer in that innings. He dismissed four of his batters via caught behind.
One common aspect among the top five entrants is, in all these innings, fast bowlers were the leading contributors to the majority of caught-behind dismissals.
Finally, except for Ian Smith’s seven catches against Sri Lanka in Hamilton, all other instances came against the home team by visiting wicketkeepers.
There are over 240 instances where a wicketkeeper made five dismissals in an innings. 14 of those instances belong to South Africa’s Mark Boucher, the most by a wicketkeeper in Tests. He is also someone who takes a big scoop of the ODI wicketkeeping records.
Kiran More has made the most stumpings in a Test innings. He dislodged the bails five times against the West Indies in the fourth innings of the 1988 Chennai Test.
