Key Insights – Players with the Most Half-Centuries in Asia Cup

Kumar Sangakkara and Rohit Sharma have hammered the most fifty-plus scores across the ODI and T20I Asia Cups. Both batters have brought up 12 fifty-plus scores in the tournament.

All of Sangakkara’s fifty-plus scores came in the ODI Asia Cup, the most by a batter. His 12 scores of 50 or more runs are also the most by a wicketkeeper in the Asia Cup.

Seven of Sharma’s fifty-plus scores came as a captain, the most by a skipper in the tournament.

Six of Sharma’s 12 knocks of fifty-plus runs came against Pakistan, the most by a batter against a team in the Asia Cup. All of those instances came in the ODI version.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s nine fifty-plus scores came as an opener, the joint-most in that position. Rohit Sharma is the other opener with nine fifty-plus knocks in the Asia Cup (ODI + T20I).

Six of Jayasuriya’s nine scores were hundreds, the most by a batter in the Asia Cup.

Virat Kohli and Babar Hayat are the only batters to smash centuries in the T20 version of the tournament. Both are, in fact, the highest individual scorers in the T20 Asia Cup, having smashed 122 runs in an innings.

Suryakumar Yadav and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have scored the joint-fastest half-centuries in the T20 Asia Cup. Both needed 22 balls to bring up their fifties against Hong Kong and Sri Lanka in the 2022 edition.

Shahid Afridi has hammered the quickest fifty in the ODI competition. The former Pakistani all-rounder took 18 deliveries to raise his half-century against Bangladesh in 2014.

Suresh Raina and Tamim Iqbal scored four fifty-plus scores each in 2008 and 2012, the joint-most by a batter in a single Asia Cup edition.
