Virat Kohli stands at the very top, having amassed a staggering 3,497 runs between his 157th and 206th ODI innings. This incredible run included a stunning 16 centuries, a record for this category. His period of dominance also featured three successive hundreds, a testament to his prolific form.
Babar Azam is the only other player to cross the 3000-run mark. The former Pakistan captain scored 3,086 runs at a phenomenal average of 67.09, accompanied by 11 centuries.
A total of 18 batters have scored 2,500 or more runs in 50 successive ODI innings. Beyond the top ten, this list includes a who’s who of cricketing greats:
Bonus: Sangakkara’s record of four consecutive ODI centuries was part of the most dominant 50-consecutive-innings run of his career.
While Kohli leads with 16 tons, a handful of other elite batsmen have also displayed remarkable century-scoring consistency. Six other players have hit 10 or more centuries in their best 50-inning streaks.
David Warner’s streak is particularly noteworthy as he scored seven of his 14 centuries in a single calendar year (2017), second only to Sachin Tendulkar’s record of nine.
This record isn’t just about accumulation; it’s also about the pace and effectiveness of scoring.
In terms of average, Virat Kohli reigns supreme with an unparalleled 94.51, followed by AB de Villiers at 73.03.
Virender Sehwag holds the record for the highest strike rate among all batters with a minimum of 2000 runs in a 50-inning sequence. He scored 2,412 runs at an explosive strike rate of 125.36 between 2008 and 2011.
