All-Time Most Sixes and Impact Records by Captains

Eoin Morgan has smashed the most sixes as a captain in ODI cricket, sending down 147 maximums in 115 innings.

Morgan also holds the record for the most sixes as a captain in an ODI innings, peppering his 148 runs with 17 sixes against Afghanistan in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

The 17 sixes hit by Morgan in that inning is also the most maximums by any batter in an ODI innings.

AB de Villiers is the only skipper to hit 10-plus sixes in an ODI innings twice.

He first hit 16 maximums in his 149-run carnage against the West Indies, followed by 11 sixes in his 119-run knock against India in 2015.

UAE’s Muhammad Waseem has scored around 34 per cent of his runs via sixes, the most by any captain in ODIs (minimum 500 runs).

Among full-member captains, Rohit Sharma has scored the highest percentage of runs through sixes, with his 126 maximums contributing 30.16 per cent of his 2506 runs as India’s skipper.

Gerhard Erasmus (Namibia) and Muhammad Waseem (UAE) are the two captains of associate teams to smash 45 or more sixes in ODIs.

Rohit hit 30 of his 126 sixes against Sri Lanka, the most by a captain against a team in ODIs.

AB de Villiers is the only skipper to smash 25 or more sixes against two opponents: 29 vs India and 27 vs West Indies in ODIs.

Home and Away Six-Hitting Records by Captains

Morgan scored 92 of his 147 maximums in England, the most by a captain on home soil in ODIs.

Rohit (77 in India), Brendon McCullum (74 in New Zealand), and MS Dhoni (65 in India) are the other captains with 50-plus sixes at home in ODIs.

Ricky Ponting and Morgan are the two skippers with 50-plus sixes in away ODIs.

Ponting leads the chart with 53 maximums, while Morgan follows him with 51.

Morgan is the only captain to hit 50-plus sixes in home and away conditions in ODIs.

Annual and Overall Boundary Hitting Milestones

Rohit has scored the most sixes as a captain in a calendar year in ODIs, hitting 67 sixes in 26 innings in 2023.

ABD is the other skipper to hammer 50+ sixes in a year, smashing 58 in 18 ODI innings in 2015.

Ricky Ponting has struck the most fours as a captain in ODIs, smashing 794 in 220 innings.

Morgan, Dhoni, Rohit, Ponting, ABD, and Sourav Ganguly are the only five skippers who have hit 100-plus fours and 100-plus sixes in ODIs.
