Highest Individual Scores in Ranji Trophy History

What’s better than notching up mammoth scores in red-ball format, and that too in India’s premier Ranji Trophy?

Over the years, many batters have piled up huge scores in the Ranji Trophy, with Bhausaheb Nimbalkar being the flag-bearer. Nimbalkar is the only Indian player to breach the 400-run mark in the Indian First-Class competition.

Batting for a longer time is always considered an arduous task, however, a few batters have shown their perseverance with the bat.

On that note, let’s look at the top 10 highest individual scores in Ranji Trophy history.

Key Insights

443: Bhausaheb Nimbalkar holds the record for smashing the highest individual score in the Ranji Trophy. His marathon innings of an unbeaten 443 came against Kathiawar in December 1948.

4: Nimbalkar would have broken Don Bradman’s record of 452* to bestow the tag of the highest individual score in First-Class cricket at that time. However, Kathiwar conceded the match during the 3rd day’s lunch break when Nimbalkar was still batting. Nevertheless, Nimbalkar’s 443* remains the 4th highest individual score in First-Class cricket.

147: Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal rewrote history books as he whacked the fastest triple century in Ranji Trophy history. He took 147 balls to complete his 300-run mark against Arunachal Pradesh in January 2024. Moreover, Agarwal broke past Marco Marais’ (191 balls) record to clinch the tag of the fastest triple centurion in First-Class cricket.

323: Tanmay Agarwal became the first-ever batter to accumulate more than 300 runs in a single day in the Ranji Trophy. Agarwal racked up 323 runs on the 1st day of the match. His exploits also made it to the top 10 instances of batters scoring the most runs in a day in First-Class cricket.

26: In his 366-run knock, Tanmay Agarwal smacked a whopping 26 sixes. This is the most sixes hit by a batter in an innings and a match in the Ranji Trophy and First-Class cricket.
