On Tuesday, May 11, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will play in the 58th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Sanju Samson won only one toss out of 11 matches, and tosses did not make too much of a difference to them.
After two straight losses, the Rajasthan Royals made a comeback with a win over the Punjab Kings. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his first half century in IPL 2022 and Shimron Hetmyer finished the innings by scoring 31 runs off 16 balls. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up three wickets for 28 runs in his four overs quota. Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Sen are expensive with the ball.
RR’s batting has been carried by Jos Buttler, who has scored 618 runs in 11 matches. Buttler scored 491 runs in the first seven matches, contributing 38.81% of RR’s total. Buttler hasn’t been as effective as he was earlier in the season, scoring only 127 runs in the next four games. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 18 wickets in the first 7 matches, and in the next matches, Chahal hasn’t taken as many wickets as he would’ve liked, and the results have reflected on the match results. He picked up only four wickets in the next games.
DC is vying for a spot in the playoffs, and they must win their next three games to do so. Prithvi Shaw missed a few matches with illness, and their openers weren’t able to give good starts in his absence. Rovman Powell hit 16 sixes in the five matches. DC will be hoping for some power hitting from the Caribbean batter.
Shardul Thakur is the weakest link in the bowling line-up. He picked 9 wickets in 11 matches, with a very high economy rate and the second worst economy rate in IPL 2022, with a minimum of 20 overs bowled. Kuldeep Yadav has been expensive in the last three matches, picking only one wicket with a 11.2 economy. Khaleel Ahmed has improved his T20 bowling and took 16 wickets this season.
